A response to Janet's question -
Marcia Mckenzie's dissertation (Simon Fraser
Univeristy, British Columbia) touches
on class in I think, useful ways...mostly suggesting that
it needs further investigation, but also suggesting that
there seemed to be a difference in the subject positions
available to the students in schools of different
socio-economic groupings, which seemed to affect their
conceptions of themselves as students and change agents --
or something like that. The dissertation is on her website
(has 'otherwise' in the title) or you can email her at
