Colleagues:
I am writing to ask your help in identifying an environmental educator who can conduct high quality research. The University of Louisville is interested in expanding it's Center for EE to focus on Urban EE research center, and has two tenure track positions available. the one research position could come in a associates level or at a full professors level give the individual experience. I have attached a position description. Please feel free to forward this to those who are qualified.
It is an exciting possibility. The initiatives are in part a result of a new partnership - a partnership for a green city. (You can see the report at www.jcpsky.net/ee) We have raised several million dollars to start the implementation of the green city initiatives. One of the committees is on EE. As a result, the school of ed, is creating two positions, both tenure track. One focused on research and would be the director of the center for ee at u of l, - that is the position
advertised, and the second would be focused on collaborative projects with our county government and on pre service teacher preparation.
U of L, has an active environmental research agenda in other schools at the University. . the various research centers are coordinated through the Kentucky Institute for the Environment and Sustainable Development. there are strong opportunities for collaborative work. If the right person is hired, they could take a leadership role in the institute - (eight centers representing the eight schools at u of l - medical, engineering, arts and sciences, business, education, urban and public affairs, law, pollution prevention)
The U of L Center for Environmental Ed also takes an active role in Kentucky with the Kentucky University Partnership for Environmental Education, http://kupee.uky.edu/ this is a collation of all of the state universities in the commonwealth, we work together to advance EE state wide. U of L has an urban mission, and the school is looking for someone to help establish a nationally recognized urban ee research center.
Lots of things are happening. In addition to this position, U of L and the Jefferson County Public Schools just announced a joint position between the School of Public Health and the JCPS office of health services, to plan new student health initiatives based around environmental problems in our community. This past year, U of L hired a joint appointment with the city health department and the school of public health.
If this is not for you at this time, we are very patient, but if it is not in the cards, I would appreciate you helping us think about who might be the right person.
Kind Regards.
David
