As part of its ongoing Cross Program research efforts , PEEC has directed PEER Associates to conduct a series of investigations into relevant fields and topics as part of a larger effort to more fully and comprehensively represent the spectrum of Place-Based Education delivery contexts. The research briefs aim to bring potentially useful implementation and evaluation practices from other fields to inform PEEC’s ongoing programmatic efforts.
Service Learning
Service-Learning (SL) is a well established pedagogy that has gone through substantial evolution in the past two decades. Extensive research and evaluation efforts have led to advances in understanding the impacts of SL as well as identifying standards for quality practice. Place-Based Education (PBE) shares a number of core principles with SL, and this substantive overlap makes a strong case that the great volume of research in service-learning is certain to offer great practical value to practitioners of PBE. Existing research, rubrics, indicators, and instruments can be adapted to the service of PEEC program implementation and evaluation efforts.
